Season's first cold day conditions in Punjab and Haryana

January 15, 2016 1:43 PM |

Season's first cold day conditions in Punjab and HaryanaAfter observing slightly warmer days and cool nights, Punjab and Haryana have witnessed season's first cold day conditions. The region had been witnessing above normal maximums and minimums for the past few days.

However, with the passage of the current Western Disturbance, weather conditions in most parts of North India have witnessed a dramatic change. Punjab and Haryana, particularly have seen a drop in temperatures.

Not only has fog made a comeback over these areas, but the weather has also turned quite chilly. The wintry conditions that were missing from most parts of Punjab and Haryana have made a reappearance. The day temperatures in both these states have dropped significantly.

Both Punjab and Haryana are now witnessing cold day conditions. These conditions occur when day temperatures fall below the 16-degree mark. Usually, heavy spell of rain and thick cloud cover or the wake of Western Disturbance results in chilly weather over the plains.

While cold day conditions missed Delhi by a few degrees as the national capital, yesterday recorded its maximum as 19°C. On the other hand, yesterday, cities in Punjab and Haryana including Amritsar (15.7°C), Jalandhar (11.5°C), Ludhiana (12.4°C), Patiala (15°C), Kurukshetra (15°C), and Kapurthala (13.3°C) observed cold day conditions.

The lowest maximums for this season were observed in the last week of December for Punjab and Haryana with the temperatures hovering between 17 and 18 degree Celsius. These conditions will remain the same for the next two to three days until the next Western Disturbance, which is likely to affect the Western Himalayan region January 18 onward.
