Single Digit Temperatures Over Rajasthan: Cool Weather Conditions To Abate Soon
Feb 14, 2025, 4:15 PM | Skymet Weather TeamThe state of Rajasthan is witnessing contrasting temperature conditions. The minimum temperatures over the western half of the state are much higher than the eastern parts. Barmer, Bikaner, Jaisalmer and Jodhpur have minimum temperatures hanging around 14°-15°C, about 3°-4°C above the normal. The highest temperature of 18.2°C in the region was recorded at Phalodi, about 9°C above the normal. Contrasting conditions have been observed over East and North Rajasthan, wherein single-digit minimum temperatures were recorded for the second consecutive day. The stations recording such low temperatures include Ganganagar, Hanumangarh, Churu, Alwar, Pilani, Bhilwara, Tonk and Bundi. There could be a couple of other locations as well.
The temperatures are likely to rise over the eastern parts in the next few days. The cold weather conditions are likely to abate, maybe temporarily and return back again after the passage of weather systems. As of now, West Rajasthan has a large seasonal deficit of 60% rainfall between 01st Jan and 14th Feb 2025. The eastern half is better off with a shortfall of 21% during the same period.
A small-scale cyclonic circulation is coming up over East Rajasthan, close to border areas of Haryana and Delhi. This is a dry circulation not associated with any weather activity. However, the winds are likely to change and become light and variable. This system will be followed by another cyclonic circulation over West and Central Rajasthan. Coupled with the western disturbance passing across the northern mountains, scattered light rain/showers are likely over West and North Rajasthan on 19th and 20th Feb 2025.
Unsteady wind patterns and the passage of weather systems will change the temperature profile over the state. Cool-weather conditions are likely to abate soon. The temperature could rise to double digits, even over parts of East and Central Rajasthan. Yes, in the wake of the systems, the mercury may plunge again sometime around the end of next week.
