Snowfall, rain likely to reduce in North; pre-monsoon continues in South

March 6, 2014 1:16 PM |

According to the latest weather update by Skymet Meteorology Division in India, the spell of snowfall over the higher reaches in the Western Himayalan region and rain in the plains is likely to stop for the next two to three days.

The Western Disturbance over Jammu & Kashmir is moving eastward and till the arrival of the next such weather system, weather in North India will remain under the influence of cold northerly winds that would keep weather pleasant in northwest and Indo-Gangetic plains.

Skymet Meteorology Division says, this is the time for snow to melt at areas that received snowfall in the last couple of days. It means that winds blowing from the region will be cold that would not let mercury levels rise much. Since another Western Disturbance is expected at the start of next week, possibly by 10th or 11th of March, day temperatures are unlikely to show any significant increase during the period due to continuity of winds.

Meanwhile southeasterly winds from the Bay of Bengal and their confluence with the northerly winds from North India would continue to bring rain in Central Peninsular region especially over Vidarbha region of Maharashtra, Rayalaseema and Telangana in Andhra Pradesh. There could also be light rain at isolated places over south Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Odisha during the next two days.

In south Peninsula, north and south interior Karnataka and parts of Tamil Nadu would also witness rain at a few places during the next two days. Rain would occur after rise in temperatures post noon due to convection with moisture feed from the Bay of Bengal. This signifies as one of the Characteristics of pre-monsoon season in South India.
