The western disturbance and its secondary system over the plains have both moved away. The weather conditions have improved since yesterday. Earlier, the western disturbance had a limited impact over Kashmir Valley and Ladakh. It largely lashed Uttarakhand and partially the state of Himachal Pradesh. The plains of North India had a decent spread of rainfall over the last two days. The weather pattern was very much on the expected and predicted lines.
Another western disturbance is approaching the Western Himalayas tomorrow, late in the day. The effect will start partially on 15th Jan and more impressively from 16th Jan 2025. This will possibly be a week-long activity for the mountains between 15th and 20th January and could spill over further till the mid-week next. The spread and intensity of the weather will peak between the 18th and 19th Jan. All the popular destinations like Srinagar, Pahalgam, Gulmarg, Dalhousie, Shimla, Manali, Uttarkashi and Mukteshwar are likely to have snowfall during this period. The lower hills and the foothills are expected to have rain and thundershowers with isolated places witnessing hailstorms.
The cold conditions are likely to intensify and the mercury levels are expected to drop during the daytime. Chillai-Kalan in the Kashmir Valley will have another harsh spell intensifying freezing cold. The persistent and continuous weather activity may cause roadblocks, disrupting connectivity and communication. The air operations, wherever available, may get hit due to excessive snowfall. The water bodies like lakes and streams may freeze, yet again. Broad clearance in the weather conditions is expected around mid-week next.
