Southwest Monsoon has been active along the West Coast of India, giving heavy rains over the places off the coast. Particularly causing heavy to very heavy rain over Konkan & Goa and coastal Karnataka.
Moreover, wet spell is likely to continue, but intensity of rain may vary from time to time.
According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, an off-shore trough along the western coast continue to persist and is extending from South Gujarat up to Kerala. The semi-permanent system has been giving moderate to heavy rain over the places along the well-marked trough line.
Let us have a look at the rainfall figures recorded across west coast in a span of last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday.
Major troughs monitoring Monsoon rains
According to Skymet, there are two significant troughs that control the Monsoon rain. One is the off-shore trough along the western coast, while other is Monsoon trough extending from Ganganagar in Rajasthan up to Kolkata and Bay of Bengal.

Both the systems are semi-permanent in nature during the Monsoon, with the first one being responsible for giving rain over west coast and the other one causing showers over Gangetic plains. These systems, which spread across thousands of kilometers, have a tendency of oscillating up and down. Off-shore trough moves in east and west direction, while Monsoon trough keeps shifting between North and South direction.
