Southwest Monsoon remains active in North India

monsoonUpdated on 7th July:  Heavy rain continues to lash parts of North India including plains and hilly states. The national capital city, Delhi, continued to receive rain showers in evening and night which also brought down the temperatures significantly.

As reiterated by Skymet Meteorology Division in India, several weather systems across North India are responsible for the weather activity. A fresh Western Disturbance is over Jammu and Kashmir, an induced cyclonic circulation over North Rajasthan a Monsoon trough oscillating close to Delhi together are responsible for the pleasant weather and rainy days in North India.

 

Updated on 6th July: The Southwest Monsoon has gained strength and given light to moderate rain showers in parts of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi-NCR since morning. According to Skymet, cloudy weather and pleasant day is likely to prevail throughout today even if rain subsides after few hours. Western Uttar Pradesh will continue to receive rain till evening. The possible areas include Meerut and Muzafarnagar. 

The rainfall for the country that became at par or turned normal yesterday due to absence of any significant rain in past few days of July is slated to gain momemtum and again turn surplus due to rainy spell expected to prevail during the next few days in north India and parts of East India including Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal.

Updated on 5th July: Even if Southwest Monsoon got delayed in its onset over Kerala, it managed to end the first month of the season with a bang. The Southwest Monsoon covered the entire country a little ahead of its schedule and the month of June ended with a surplus of 16%. Keeping up with the momentum, Monsoon in India is slated to pick pace again 6th July onwards, ushering in a normal Monsoon season this year.

According to the data available with the Skymet, the country is still witnessing a surplus rainfall of 7% despite no significant rainfall in the past few days of July. Moreover, 85% of the country is covered with normal rainfall out of which 48% is enjoying excess rainfall.

The 7% excess rainfall for the country may, however, come down to normal in next two days due to the dry weather in North India and limited Monsoon rains over East and Northeast India. Thereafter, weather is likely to be influenced in North India due to the Western Disturbance.

Nonetheless, good news is still in store for the country. According to Skymet, after a short breather, Southwest Monsoon is expected to gain strength and give heavy rainfall from 6th July onwards. The parts affected by this rainfall will be North and Northwest India from 6th-8th July. Thereafter, next two days i.e. 9th-10th July will affect Central India including East Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Marathwada. Goa and Kerala will also receive Monsoon showers during these two days.

East and Northeast India will continue to receive moderate to heavy Monsoon rains due to the persisting Monsoon trough along the foothills and sub-Himalayan West Bengal. The only areas that will be left out includes Madhya Maharashtra, Gujurat and South Rajasthan.
