Past 24 hours were no different wherein moderate to heavy rain and thundershowers along with thunderstorm and lightning strikes were witnessed over both the states.

In span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, Kalingapatnam recorded rain to the tune of 29 mm, Narsapur 29 mm, Gopalpur 25 mm, Visakhapatnam 25 mm, Bhadrachalam 21 mm, Puri 21 mm, Jagdalpur 14 mm, Bhawanipatna 10 mm, Angul 12 mm, Kakinada 7 mm, Bhubaneswar 3 mm, Vijaywada 2 mm and Sambalpur 1 mm.

These rains can be attributed to the cyclonic circulation over Gangetic West Bengal. A trough is also running from this circulation till Tamil Nadu across Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.

With the system persisting, moderate to heavy rain and thundershowers with frequent lightning strikes and strong winds are expected to continue over many districts of Coastal Odisha as well as Coastal Andhra Pradesh during the next 24-48 hours.

Interior parts of the states are also likely to record some rain and thundershowers as well. However, it would be quite less as compared to the coastal districts. Thus, the state capital of Hyderabad is also likely to see some short spells of rains and thunderstorms. Though the intensity of rains would be less, but it would be instrumental in bringing in some respite from the sweltering weather conditions.

As per weathermen, these pre-Monsoon rain and thundershowers are likely to subside after 48 hours but on and off rains and thundershowers would continue.
