Today, i.e. January 21 marks the second milestone in the form of ‘Paush Purnima’ for devotees of Prayagraj Ardh Kumbh Mela 2019. According to the reports, several devotees from worldwide took holy dips in sacred rivers in the presence of chilly cold condition that was observed in the early morning hours. Moreover, the sacred city of Prayagraj was gripped by fog and mist in the morning with minimums reported near or below normal mark around 9℃. However, now as the day progresses, we expect conditions to improve with maximums settling above normal by 6℃ to 7℃. Thus, afternoon will be warm and comfortable for the devotees.

January 21 also marks full moon day, popularly known as ‘Paush Purnima’, as per Hindu calendar. Today, Lunar Eclipse will occur that has been given the name as Super Blood Wolf Moon.

Now let’s understand this term by breaking it into three parts-

Super Moon + Blood Moon + White Wolf

Super Moon- As we all know the moon orbits Earth. During this orbit, at some point the moon comes closest to earth, while at other times it remains farthest from earth. When it is closest to earth, it looks bigger and that is why called as ‘Super Moon’.

Blood Moon- When earth comes in between the moon and the sun, it blocks the light coming from sun. As a result, moon’s surface glows red. This situation is known as ‘Blood Moon.’

White Wolf- Traditionally, any full moon in the month of January is known as ‘Wolf.’

Today, the combination of these words i.e Lunar Eclipse will last for duration of two hours and complete its cycle at 10:42 am according to Indian Standard Time. However it will not be visible in Asian countries including India. This lunar eclipse will be visible in clear sky conditions over Europe, the United States and parts of Africa.

It is interesting to know that the eclipse combining of these three words occurs very rarely. In last century, it was seen only thrice and now after today it is expected to take place in 2030.

Now let’s know how this eclipse will affect weather over Prayagraj-

Although this eclipse will not be visible in country, India but it is expected to imprint some effect over Prayagraj. Last two days I.e. January 19 and 20 were observing warm day conditions for Prayagraj .However, January 22 onward, a prolonged wet spell will occur which is expected to continue for five days. This would result into cold day conditions followed by cold nights. However, clearance in weather in expected January 28 onward.
