System in Bay of Bengal gives rain over Andhra, Odisha and West Bengal

Rain in KolkataThe persisting system over southwest Bay of Bengal has been sustaining its strength since last four days and continues to give light to moderate widespread rain over coastal parts of Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and West Bengal.

According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, good to moderate rain will continue over the region with increased spread during the next 24 hours, post which system will weaken significantly.

In a span of last 24 hours, Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh recorded 7.2 mm, Kalingapatnam 3.9 mm,   Kakinada 3.2 mm and Nellore 0.5 mm of rain. In Odisha, Gopalpur received 7.2 mm, Bhubaneswar 0.2 mm and Jharsuguda 1.2 mm of rain.

While in West Bengal, rain was confined to extreme southern coastal parts only where Kolkata recorded 8 mm of rain, Diamond Harbour 2.3 mm and Digha 0.1 mm.

The system has also affected few parts of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. Aurangabad and Buldhana recorded 0.4 mm and 1 mm of rain, respectively. State capital of Madhya Pradesh, Bhopal also received thundershowers.

However, rain  over Tamil Nadu has reduced considerably, as the system has now shifted northeastwards. Chennai recorded 0.3 mm of rainfall, Kodaikanal 0.2 mm and Kanyakumari 0.8 mm, while Coimbatore and Madurai received traces of rainfall.

As per Skymet, the weakened system after next 48 hours is expected to interact with a Western Disturbance, which is presently moving across Jammu and Kashmir. This clash of two weather systems might give some light rain over Bihar and East and Central Uttar Pradesh.
