The Southwest Monsoon is all in the mood to bid adieu to the country and winters are expected to knock the doors almost any time now over the northern plains of the country.
This is a clear indication that the northwest India including Delhi and NCR will be witnessing minimums settling in teens. On the other hand, the weather of the South Peninsular India remains comfortable during this time of the year with the night temperatures in upper 20’s.
However, the present weather scenario is a complete U-turn for the country. Despite the fact, the temperatures have already shown a decreasing trend in parts of northwest India in the past day, the minimums recorded in many parts of Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi and NCR are way more than those in the southern and central regions of the country such as Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra.
In the last 24 hours, Delhi’s Safdarjung and Palam Observatories recorded the minimums at 17 °C and 18°C respectively, the night temperatures have dropped exceptionally over Telangana’s Adilabad that recorded 13°C, which is 8 degrees beneath normal since the last 48 hours.

Some parts of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh also observed the night temperatures settling below Delhi’s minimums. During the similar time frame, Damoh recorded 12.2°C, Chhindwara 12.4°C, Nashik 13.8°C, Malanjkhand 14°C, and Parbhani and Betul observed the night temperatures at 14.4°C.
Normally, Delhi is cooler than most parts of Telangana including Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh but this unusual difference between the temperatures of Delhi and these other regions is very rare.
Reason for this contrast as per Skymet Weather can be attributed to dry and cool northerly and northeasterly winds that are blowing over Telangana. It is due to this wind pattern that has resulted in a significant drop in temperatures over Adilabad and many parts of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.
In contrast, the winds over Delhi and NCR remained calm and for a short duration, winds from the southwest direction that are comparatively warm and humid also continued over the region. Therefore, the temperatures of Delhi remained higher than Adilabad.
But, this scenario will certainly change as winters progress and Delhi and NCR will brace for colder weather soon.
