Three Digit Rainfall Observed over Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and VidarbhaA low pressure area, which was yesterday over Northcentral Andhra Pradesh and adjoining Odisha has moved in the northwest direction and in the process has given moderate to heavy rain over many areas. Also, one or two places have recorded extremely heavy rainfall.

A few stations have observed rainfall in three digits. In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, Sindewahi in Chandrapur, Vidarbha recorded a whopping 163 mm of rain, while Nizamabad in Telangana received 129 mm of rain. Also, in the same time span, Visakhaptnam and Waltair observed 101 mm and 100 mm of rain, respectively.

Now, as this low pressure area is over Southeast Madhya Pradesh and adjoining Vidarbha, it will continue to give heavy to very heavy rain over South Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha region. For instance, Nagpur which lies in the Vidarbha region has already received 89 mm of rain in just 6 hours. Many other stations of Vidarbha and South Madhya Pradesh are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rain.

At present, Vidarbha is 10 per cent rain deficient. This spell of heavy rainfall is expected to bring down the deficiency to some extent. On the other hand, the rainfall figures for Coastal Andhra Pradesh are normal and heavy rain may further increase the rainfall figures.
