Three digit rains batter Kolkata, Midnapore, Burdwan, Sunderban, more showers ahead

This time, the state of West Bengal has had a good Monsoon performance so far. This has been in spite of the pan India deficiency. The month of July for West Bengal had ended at 34 percent surplus. While August which was a very poor Monsoon month for the country at -24 percent, West Bengal was surplus at 16 percent.

The month of September also started on a good note with the rainfall stats until yesterday settling at 12 percent surplus.

The deep depression that formed in the Bay of Bengal has crossed the coast near Chandbali. The spirals of the systems extended up to Gangetic West Bengal. Therefore, In the last 24 hours, heavy showers have been recorded over Gangetic West Bengal.

In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Tuesday, Midnapore recorded a whopping 260 mm of rains, Dum Dum Airport recorded 159 mm, Howrah 204 mm, and Alipore in Kolkata at 102 mm, Sunderbans 178 mm, Burdwan 118 mm, Diamond Harbour 179 mm. The last 24 hours have been the rainiest day of this Monsoon for Gangetic West Bengal.

The system has not gone very far away and is currently over Chhattisgarh and adjoining Madhya Pradesh as a well-marked low pressure area. The residual of that system is leading to some clouding over Gangetic West Bengal. These rains are expected to continue for another 24 hours and reduce thereafter.
