Rain in Uttar Pradesh

It has been raining profusely in the state of Uttar Pradesh from the past 24 hours courtesy the Low-Pressure Area which has now weakened. Now, a Cyclonic Circulation lies over East Madhya Pradesh and its adjoining areas.

In the past 24 hours, Varanasi recorded 78 mm of rains while Gorakhpur saw 58.9 mm of rainfall. ChitrakootHardoi, Banda and Fatehpur also recorded moderate rains of 22 mm, 24 mm, 34 mm and 17 mm, respectively.

The pocket of Uttar Pradesh has been rain deficit this Monsoon season. While until the middle of September, Uttar Pradesh is rain deficit by 24% wherein West Uttar Pradesh is deficit by 30% while East Uttar Pradesh is lagging by 21%.

The heavy downpours have resulted in rise in the water level of the river Ganga and are impacting the low-lying areas of Prayagraj and Varanasi.

Whenever it rains profusely somewhere in Nepal or over its mountainous region, the parts of East Uttar Pradesh also get affected. Such a situation arises whenever there is some weather system or for that matter if the Axis of Monsoon Trough is close to the region. However, for now, no such situation is prevalent.

Nepal is definitely witnessing rains, but these rains are not likely to trigger flood-like situation over East Uttar Pradesh.
