Torrential Monsoon rains trigger floods in Satna, Army starts rescue operations

July 8, 2016 11:18 AM |

Floods in SatnaExtremely heavy rains during the last three days have led to flash floods in several parts of Madhya Pradesh. Satna district has been the worst affected after recording incessant rains of over 652 mm in span of three days.

Hundreds of people have been stranded as several villages have been cut off after torrential rains submerged several roads and highways. Army personnel have already started the rescue operations and around 300 people were airlifted from Amiliya Village of Satna district.

Water levels have risen significantly in several rivers across the state including Narmada, Betwa, Jamani, Dhasan and Kopra.

Situation remains grim as weathermen at Skymet Weather predict more Monsoon showers to continue during the next 24 hours. Heavy rains are likely to batter Satna, Vidisha, Chhatarpur, Teekamgarh, Batul, Raisen, Guna, Ashoknagar, Hoshangabad and Rajgarh.

According to Skymet Weather, these rains can be attributed to well-marked low pressure area stationed over Northeast Madhya Pradesh. The system will continue to retain the strength and is likely to stay put over the region. Thus, moderate to heavy rains with few spells of extremely heavy showers will continue over most parts of Madhya Pradesh.
