Ratnagiri Rains and Floods

In the last 24 hours, Ratnagiri in Maharashtra recorded 35 mm of rains. At least six people have been declared dead after the Tiware dam breached late Tuesday night and it caused a flood-like situation in seven villages. The breach of the dam occurred around 10 pm on Tuesday after very heavy rains over the last two days.

While the six bodies have been found, over twenty people have been reported missing. Due to this, at least 12 houses in the village adjacent to the dam have been washed away. The rescue operation is already underway.

The Ratnagiri police informed that the Tiware dam on a rivulet Chiplun had started developing cracks after Tuesday evening. Before villagers downstream could be alerted, the dam developed a rupture flooding the villages and hamlets within minutes.

A team of 5 Battalion NDRF has been sent to Tiware dam for the rescue operation. Pune's National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team is also heading towards the Ratnagiri district.

The civil administration, police, and the volunteers all are working at the site.
