Unseasonal rain to cease soon over Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh

Maharashtra unseasonal rains

The unseasonal weather activity prevailed for nearly one week over central and eastern parts of the country. Gujarat, Southwest Madhya Pradesh and North Maharashtra including Mumbai were lashed with untimely moderate rain and thundershower between 10th December and 15th December. Mumbai experienced these rains for all the 6 days and Colaba (Mumbai) measured 26mm rainfall against the monthly normal of 1.6mm for December. Madhya Pradesh was largely affected and most parts received unseasonal activity for nearly 5 days starting with Indore, Ujjain, Dhar, Shajapur, and Bhopal.

The unseasonal weather activity later extended to cover Chhattisgarh and also some parts of Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar, and West Bengal. Courtesy this wet spell, the meteorological subdivisions of Saurashtra & Kutch, Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh are in excess to large excess for the season.

This weather activity was mainly in association with a weather system (Well Marked Low) persisting over central parts of Arabian Sea with a trough and confluence zone extending up to the central parts covering these states. Also, this feature was embedded with a cyclonic circulation over trijunction of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. The system has since weakened and also shifted far to the west to influence anymore the central parts with effect from 17th December. Fair weather with sunny days and clear nights are expected over the entire region.
