Along with capital of Himachal Pradesh, Shimla was also known as the summer capital of British India. It is surrounded by pine, deodar and oak forests. Its well-developed amenities, easy reach and various tourist attractions make it one of India’s most popular hill stations.

During the winter months, Shimla witnesses rain and snow activities. This year, there have not been enough active Western Disturbances to give enough rain and snow over the capital city of Himachal Pradesh in December and January.

However, good rains and snow occurred over Shimla between February 11 and 13. Since then, the weather of the city has remained dry.

Now there is a possibility for Shimla to witness snowfall, as an active Western Disturbance is approaching over Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. Due to this, moderate to heavy rain and snow is expected over many parts of Himachal Pradesh from the night of February 23 to February 25.

Currently, temperatures of the city are significantly above normal. The maximum temperature is running 5 degrees above normal and minimum is settling 4 degrees above normal.

Furthermore, clouds are already seen over the city and we expect rains to commence by tonight or early morning tomorrow.

This rain and snow will be very exciting for the tourists visiting Shimla. Temperatures will be seen dropping significantly by tomorrow leading to pleasant weather conditions. Day will be very cool, and nights will be chilly. So tourists who are heading to see the snowfall must carry Enough winter wear with them and even umbrellas at times.
