June 10, 2015 12:38 PM |

HeatwaveThe entire country is experiencing some weather activity due to which the temperatures are hovering close to normal at most places. But East India, particularly Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand are observing extremely hot conditions. The day temperatures at several places are recording above normal by 6 to 7°C.

For instance, Allahabad has been sizzling under intense heat as the day temperature in the city settled at 47.6°C on Tuesday, which is 6 degrees above the monthly normal. The state capital Lucknow saw the maximum settle at 45.7°C, again 6 degrees above normal. Varanasi and Bahraich recorded day temperatures of 46.4°C and 44.2°C, respectively, which is 5 degrees above normal.

In Jharkhand, Daltonganj saw the maximum record 8 degrees above normal at 46.6°C. Giridih was baking on Tuesday as the day temperature settled 12 degrees above normal at 45.6°C. In neighbouring Bihar, Gaya was sweltering under maximum of 46°C, which is 6 degrees above normal. The maximum temperature in Patna also settled 5 degrees above normal at 43.5°C.

Currently the region is deprived of any weather activity due to which the skies have cleared up and the sun is bright. The pre-Monsoon activity of severe thunder squall also known as Kal Baisakhi or Nor’westers around the Chota Nagpur Plateau in Jharkhand has also reduced leading to rise in temperature.

The heatwave conditions in the region are expected to continue for at least 2 to 3 days more. Thereafter rain and thundershower activity is likely over most parts of Bihar. Scattered rainfall will also be observed over Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.

This is because a Western Disturbance in the hills and a trough along the Indo-Gangetic plains, from Haryana to West Bengal across Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand will work in tandem to give rain in the region.
