Uttarakhand Rains continue to wreak havoc, death toll rises to 15Monsoon rains in Uttarakhand continue to wreak havoc over the entire state. Heavy rains have been lashing the state for the past few days making conditions worse for the state as a whole. The death toll has risen to 15 now.

Char Dham Yatra has also been severely affected as several roads have been blocked making conditions even worse in the state. Due to incessant rainfall, over 330 roads in about 11 districts of Uttarakhand have been blocked causing massive traffic disruption.

While about 71 roads are blocked in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, 61 roads are not fully functional in Pauri. Other areas to have being observing road blockage include Pithoragarh, Dehradun, Tehri, Almora, Nainital and Rudraprayag.

Due to heavy rainfall over the area, several rivers of the state including Gomti, Ganga, Sharda, and Kosi have been flowing close to the danger levels due to which flood situation also persists over the plains of Uttarakhand.

While the trek route beyond Sonprayag to Kedarnath is currently operational, helicopter services to the pilgrim centre has been put to a halt for now. The last leg of the Badrinath Yatra is being constantly hit by landslides making conditions worse for the travellers.

During the last 24 hours, some areas of Uttarakhand including Dehradun and Mukteshwar have received heavy rains causing the situation to remain grim over the region.

Now, due to the Western Disturbance and the axis of the Monsoon trough being in close proximity of the state, heavy rains are likely to continue over the state for the next 24 hours. Thus, no respite is in sight for now.
