Visakhapatnam records three digit rainfall in 24 hoursFor the past two to three days, Coastal Andhra Pradesh has been receiving moderate to heavy rainfall. One or two places have recorded very heavy rainfall as well. These rains have occurred due to a trough extending from the upper air cyclonic circulation up to Andhra Pradesh.

In the last 24 hours, many areas in the state have received good Monsoon showers. Visakhapatnam in particular has observed very heavy rainfall. In a span of 24 hours, the city recorded a good 134 mm of rain.

The average rainfall in Visakhapatnam for the month of October is 229 mm. On the last day of the month the city received more than half the amount of its monthly rainfall. Usually, Visakhapatnam does receive more than 100 mm of rain in 24 hours in October. During this period, there are times when more than 200 mm of rain is also recorded.

During the last ten years, the city has received record breaking rain of 233.9 mm on October 5, 2007. The all-time 24-hour record rain for Visakhaptnam is 371.2 mm of rain, which was observed on October 17, 1982.

Due to these rains, maximum and minimum temperatures have witnessed a marginal drop. The maximum settled at 27.8°C, which is 4 degrees below normal, while the minimum recorded 22.3°C, which is 2 degrees below normal. Andhra Pradesh receives rain during both the Southwest Monsoon as well as the Northeast Monsoon season.
