Mumbai temperatures are likely to rise over the next few days. The day temperature may breach the 35°C mark on the approaching weekend. High humidity levels, coupled with a rise in temperature, will lead to sultry conditions, impinging comfort levels. No other significant weather in terms of clouds, rain, or winds is expected over the next one week.

The months of January and February have an average day temperature of about 31°C. The mercury has a tendency to rise during the last week of February and more sharply in the month of March. March to May remains the hottest period and muggy conditions persist till the monsoon arrives. Being a coastal station on the Western Ghats, the day temperatures are largely governed by the land and sea breeze effect.

The coastal city has recorded a maximum temperature of about 30°-31°C over the last four days, which was fairly comfortable. The sea breeze also made an early entry, suppressing the rise in temperatures. So far, the low-level winds enjoyed a component of land breeze from Gujarat and Rajasthan, carrying mild temperatures. This wind pattern is likely to undergo change and therefore trigger warm and humid conditions.

Under the influence of western disturbances, the seasonal anticyclone over Rajasthan will shift quite far over parts of Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh. The cold sweep from the northern plains will get arrested over North Madhya Maharashtra and the Konkan region. There is a likelihood of a cyclonic circulation coming up over South Gujarat, North Konkan and adjacent Arabian Sea. This will be a dry circulation, not associated with any other weather hazard. Yet, the wind pattern will get altered to have land winds from deeper parts of Maharashtra, persisting for longer durations. This will restrict the onset of soothing sea breeze to late afternoon hours.

The humidity levels as such, remain high and frequently cross the 50% mark, even in the afternoon. Delayed onset of sea breeze will trigger a rise in temperatures. Earlier, the day temperature in the month of January remained at or below the 35°C mark. In the last one month, the highest temperature of 35.5°C was recorded on 15th Jan 2025. The likely rise in the mercury stands a chance to breach this mark over the next few days. The city may touch the notional mark of 36°C between 08th and 10th Feb 2025.
