Weather forecast for the week in India from 12th January to 18th January

January 12, 2015 4:31 PM |

Jammu rainThis week some weather systems will affect both North India and South India, particularly during the weekend. Fog will relent in spread and intensity, while cold day conditions will dominate.

Let’s take a detailed look at the weather across the country:

Weather in North India

Presently there is a Western Disturbance in Jammu and Kashmir, which is likely to give snow and rain in the higher reaches of the state and Himachal Pradesh in next 24 hours. The lower parts of the region will also get affected by the weather system. As far as the plains are concerned, we can expect some light rain in Punjab, Haryana and Delhi by Wednesday.

Meanwhile, a circulation is expected in Rajasthan and Haryana by tomorrow, which will gradually shift eastward. Due to this circulation the wind will change from Northwesterly to southeasterly. The change in wind will make the cold weather a little comfortable as these winds are not dry and cold like the northwesterly winds.

By the start of the new week we will again observe a fresh Western Disturbance, which is likely to last for 2-3 days.

Weather in Central India

In terms of precipitation there is nothing happening in Central India this week. However, the change in wind pattern from Northwesterly to southeasterly will help abate the cold wave conditions in the region. The minimum temperatures are expected to rise in parts of Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Pune and Nashik.

Weather in East and Northeast India

Here too, we don’t expect much in terms of rain or drop in temperatures. The overall scenario will be good and fog will become thin. Till a few days back dense to very dense fog was being observed in the region.

Due to the reversal of winds the minimum temperatures are expected to rise, while the maximums are likely to settle below normal. Towards the weekend winds will again change to northwesterly.

We can expect rain in the region on January 21 and January 22, the period when a fresh Western Disturbance is to affect North India.

Weather in South India

South India is expected to maintain a normal temperature profile this week. West coast is likely to be warmer than the east coast, a usual phenomenon. The maximum temperature in west coast is likely to settle in the mid-30s, while the east coast will see the maximums hover around 30 degrees Celsius.

Around the weekend, we can expect some rain as a cyclonic circulation in the Bay of Bengal will move closer to peninsular India. It will first impact coastal Tamil Nadu, south coastal Andhra Pradesh and later the interior parts.
