Weather forecast for the week in India from 16th Dec to 22nd Dec

December 18, 2013 2:13 PM |

A look at the weather forecast in India for the coming week:

North IndiaWeather in north India will be foggy this week. A reversal of winds from dry northwesterly to humid easterlies led to dense fog in Delhi and North India throughout the week with dense fog for the first two to three days of  the week. This could therefore severely hamper air, road and rail traffic. Flight operations in Delhi and Amritsar could be the worst affected. Maximums will witness a drop due to the dense fog cover and settle between 22 to 24 degrees this week. Minimums will continue to be cold, between 8 to 10 degrees without any major changes. Snow in Jammu and Kashmir which usually occurs around this time will be missing, except in the higher reaches.

East and Northeast India – Weather forecast show that fog in East India, in parts of Bihar, Jharkhand and the Indo Gangetic plains will increase this week and will continue to occur at frequent intervals. Light variable winds and constant moisture feed from the nearby water bodies (rivers) will lead to a continuous formation of fog. Thick fog cover this week will lead to a drop in the maximum temperatures. Nights will be chilly with minimums settling between 8⁰C to 11⁰C. In the Northeast, Assam and other areas, situated on the banks of Brahmaputra River will also witness thick fog this week. Imphal will be very cold with minimums hovering around 5⁰C.

Central India– Fog will not bother people in Central India. In the first half of the week, temperatures will be predominantly lower than normal by about three to four degrees in parts of Vidharbha, Madhya Maharashtra and parts of Telangana. Here the minimums will maintain between 7⁰C to 9⁰C on an average. However, in the second half of the week the temperatures will start to settle around normal. Early mornings and nights will be chilly but the day will be warm and sunny at around 28⁰C to 30⁰C in most parts of Central India this week.

South India– It will be a calm week for this part of the country. Weather in South India will remain warm and completely dry. Rainfall has stopped much before the end of the Northeast Monsoon season. As a result, Tamil Nadu will continue to reel under a rain deficit of over 80%. Temperatures will drop due to the absence of rain and cloud cover. Maximums in the west coast will hover around 34⁰C to 35⁰C and in the east coast they will maintain around 30⁰C throughout the week. Forecast at Skymet show that South India may be dry for the entire week however, towards the weekend there are chances of light rain due to a flow of moist easterly winds from the sea.
