The state of Karnataka consists of three regions, Coastal Karnataka, South Karnataka and North Karnataka. Out of these, Coastal Karnataka is the rainiest in the country as well as the region. Out of south and north, the southern parts receive more rainfall activity as compared to the northern areas.
Cities of Mangaluru in Uttar Kannada and Karwar in Dakshin Kannada remain susceptible to heavy rainfall activity. Between June 1 and 15, Mangaluru has seen 495 mm of rains which is in excess of 74 mm. Meanwhile, Karwar has recorded 663 mm of rain which is in excess of 260 mm.

Talking about North Interior Karnataka and South Interior Karnataka, Madikeri and Agumbe record heavy rains which has been the case this time as well. In fact, Agumbe has until June 14, recorded 1033 mm of rains which is about double the amount than it should have.
The last 24 hours have also been rainy enough for the state. In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, Honavar recorded 49 mm of rains, Shirali 66 mm, Karwar 43 mm, Koppal 42.4 mm, and Agumbe 83.8 mm.
Now monsoon rainfall activity will take a break for about two days over Coastal Karnataka but revive again around June 18. Thus, since the beginning of the next week itself, Coastal Karnataka will see very heavy rains.
These rains will occur in association with cyclonic circulation which is seen over East Central Arabian sea in the middle levels. It is expected to move closer to the coast, become more marked and trickle downward giving rains over Karnataka.
