West Bengal and Odisha to see heavy rains in the days to come

September 30, 2019 11:39 AM |

Monsoon Rains in West Bengal

During the last 24 hours, moderate to heavy rains have occurred over many parts of West Bengal and interior parts of Odisha.

An East-West Trough which was extending from Punjab to Assam across Bihar and West Bengal was responsible for these rain activities.

Now, we expect, moderate rains with one or two heavy spells to continue over West Bengal until next 24 hours. Thereafter, the rain intensity will decrease. Odisha will also get good rains today. By tomorrow the intensity will go down and scattered light rains with a few moderate spells are likely.

By tomorrow, the Trough will get weakened leading to decreased rain activities.

The next spell of rains is expected to arrive over Odisha around October 4 and may continue until October 7. Rains over West Bengal will also increase once again by October 5.

The next spell of rains over both the states will be due to the formation of a Cyclonic Circulation over Odisha and Jharkhand around October 4. During that time rains will be much more intense in Odisha in comparison to West Bengal. So, we can say that the first week of October will also be rainy for both the eastern states of Odisha and West Bengal.

These continuous rains have led to a significant rain surplus over West Bengal and Odisha. While Sub-Himalayan West Bengal is rain deficient by 6% till now. At the same time, Gangetic West Bengal is deficient by 21%. On the other hand, Odisha is running rain surplus by 5%.
