West Bengal rains

The jinx of dry spell persisting in West Bengal broke yesterday when some scattered rains appeared over the state. With this, yesterday’s rainy episode can be called as the first scattered rainy spell of the month.

Prior to these spells, only a few stations such as Purulia and Digha witnessed some light traces of rains during the mid-week of February, while the other stations mainly remained parched.

It was due to the prevailing dry spell that the temperatures over most parts of the state were settling above normal by 4-5 degrees. The last 24 hours brought that much-awaited relief for the people of West Bengal who were craving for some good showers.

Though the intensity of these showers remained light in nature, due to partly cloudy to the cloudy sky, these rains gave marginal relief from the ongoing very warm conditions.

As per Skymet Weather, a series of Western Disturbances are affecting the Western Himalayan region. These weather systems would travel eastwards along the foothills of the Himalayas towards Tibet.

In the wake of this, occasional light rains are expected to continue over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and adjoining areas for another 24 hours. Thereafter, the weather would become dry once again.
