Winter chill cheats Shimla, Pune and Ahmednagar remain colder

November 25, 2016 12:45 PM |

Winter in IndiaNovember is drawing to a close and it is that time of the year when popular hill stations of North India begin to feel the winter chill and drastic fall in minimum temperatures, making nights and morning chilly. However, in an unexpected turn of events, places in Maharashtra and somewhat in Madhya Pradesh are relishing what the typical November weather feels like.

Shimla, Dharamsala, Nahan are not just witnessing double digit minimum temperature such as 12.5°C and 11.8°C, respectively but temperatures settling 3-6 degrees above normal. Moreover, these temperatures are way above what Ahmednagar, Pune and Nashik are observing since past one week.

This weather pattern that first appeared around 13-14th November has resurfaced again this week. Pune has once again turned colder than popular hill stations such as Shimla and Dharamsala.

Barring few hill stations, temperature has been hovering between 7- 7.6°C in Ahmednagar, whereas the cold spell continued in Pune where temperature settled at 10.1°C,  three degrees below than the normal, on November 25.

This contrasting situation between Pune and Shimla continues to persist owing to the wind pattern and several other weather conditions. "The cold and dry northerly winds blowing from North India through Madhya Pradesh are causing a significant dip in temperature across Maharashtra. While continuous yet weak western disturbances over hilly states of North India have increased the night temperature there, “explained Mahesh Palawat, chief meteorologist, Skymet Weather.

Even though nip in the air can be felt in Haryana, Delhi-NCR and Punjab, hill stations of North India still await an active Western Disturbance for rain and snow that could possibly bring a drop in morning and night temperature.
