winter rain in Delhi

Winter season for this year has come to an end with the end of February. The pan India rain figures for the country are out and they look similar to this-

While the month of January remained mainly surplus for the country, February was mostly rain deficient. January ended on a rain surplus note of 63% which later got covered by February’s rain deficiency of 48%. Capsulated, the rain deficiency for the month of February seem to have got compensated by the rains of January. Geographically, the largest contribution for rains comes from hills in North India. The state of Jammu and Kashmir turned out highly rain surplus by 225%, followed by Himachal Pradesh with that of 192% surplus. At the same time, Arunachal Pradesh and Assam too have received good rains in the season. In fact, the rains have remained mainly satisfactory over all the regions including that of North, Central and East.

On the other hand, very little contribution came from South India. In fact, Winters are a lean period for South India in terms of rain. Also, the states of Maharashtra (regions of Marathwada and Madhya Maharashtra) and Karnataka remained mostly dry this Winter.
