March 5, 2014 1:45 PM |

According to the latest weather update by Skymet Meteorology Division in India, cold winter days with freezing temperatures and foggy nights, particularly in North India is finally bidding goodbye.

North India - Slow and gradual is the retreating pattern of winter in North India right now. After a not so cold December, to a biting cold January and a very wet February, winter is showing slow signs of receding. Delhi and adjoining states of Rajasthan and Haryana are entering a phase where the days will turn very warm and nights will remain cool. On the other hand places along the foothills, such as Dehradun, Chandigarh, Pathankot and Amritsar will bid goodbye to winter by end of March.

The hills of Jammu and Kashmir would continue to witness a stark contrast weather-wise, receiving snowfall till the end of March or April.

Central and East India - Winter is almost ending in Central, East and Northeast India. A warm and rainy weather is already being experienced in Central India, while East and Northeast India is observing dry and hot weather. Over 40 mm of rain in Madhya Pradesh accompanied with hail in the last few days has already broken many records. Winter weather however still resides in isolated locations of Lucknow and Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh where the nights are still chilly and the minimums continue to record in single digit.

South India - Without a doubt, winter is over in this part of the country. The weather in South India including parts of Maharashtra has entered a new phase where the region starts receiving pre-monsoon showers, a period which lasts from March to May. Parts of Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra have recorded approximately 30 to 45 mm of rain in the month of March alone. Temperatures have risen along the coastal stations and the maximums now continuously settle between 33⁰C and 36⁰C.
