Overview
A spiritual and cultural center for the Sikhs, Amritsar is located in the state of Punjab and is home to Harmandir Sahib, popularly known as the Golden Temple. The city is a very popular tourist destination, with over 100,000 people visiting the place every week. This is more than the number of people visiting the Taj Mahal. The Wagah Border (Indo-Pak border) which is just 28 kilometers from the city is also a very popular tourist spot. Amritsar observes a semiarid climate, which is the characteristic of northwest India.

Moderate rainfall is observed during the monsoon months of July, August and September. The average seasonal rainfall for the city is 500 mm. August is the rainiest month with 245 mm of average rainfall. Monsoon could be a preferred time to visit the city as the rainfall amounts are not very high and the temperatures during these months settle at comfortable levels
Places to see in Amritsar-o
Amritsar is well connected by road, rail and air traffic. The Golden Temple, a spiritual and cultural centre for the Sikh religion is visited by thousands of tourists every day. The Wagah Border and the Jalliawalan Bagh are other important tourist destinations in the city. The Jalliawalan Bagh houses a memorial to commemorate the massacre carried out by British troops on thousands of unarmed innocent people.
