Barmer is a city that is located in the Barmer district of the state of Rajasthan. The city was first founded in the 13th century. The original name of the village was Bahadmer which means the hill fort of Bahada. The town has many historical sites and is a popular tourist destination.

Winter season which lasts from November to February is quite good. Weather is cool and perfect for tourists visiting the city. Temperatures range from a minimum of 10°C and to a maximum of 28°C. January is usually the coldest month of the year.

In the summer season, temperatures in Barmer can be hot with maximum touching 45°C during the hottest month of May. Visiting the cultural city during the months of April and May is not advisable because of harsh weather conditions. The lowest temperature during this period is generally around 25°C.

However, there have been cases when the city experienced abnormal rainfall in certain years due to certain weather systems (depressions). Another famous festival in the town is the Barmer Thar Festival. This was initially started to promote tourism in the city and takes place in the month of March.
