Overview
Bodh Gaya is the most important place for Buddhist pilgrimage in the world. Located in the state of Bihar, it's here that Lord Buddha attained enlightenment during intense meditation under a Bodhi tree. It attracts tens of thousands of believers from all over the world every year. Bodh gaya, 140 km from Patna, faces extreme climatic conditions. The summers are unbearably hot, winters are very cold and the monsoon season is extremely wet and rainy.

Summers in Gaya
Summer season starts from March and ends in May. Average summer temperature ranges around 40⁰C. There are days when the maximums even touch 47°C. Average minimum temperatures hover around 27⁰C in this season. Though most prefer to stay away from visiting the city during the summer months, light cotton clothes are strictly advised for travellers and devotees if visiting at this time.

This city experiences plenty of rain during monsoon period. Southwest Monsoon starts from June and lasts till September. Weather remains pleasant in this season as it allows tourists to enjoy and view the famous sights. This city receives about 100 cm of rainfall annually.

Winter season is the best time to travel to Bodh Gaya. October and March are the most pleasant months for seeing Mahabodhi Temple, Bodhi Tree, Stone railing and Ashoka Pillar.
