Situated at a distance of 56 km from Indore, city of Ujjain is one of the most ancient cities of the country which is located on the banks of River Shipra. Winters in Ujjain
The winter season in Ujjain lasts for four months, from November to February. This is the most pleasant season with very comfortable and extremely cool days too. Maximums generally remain in mid twenties. However comfortable days convert into extremely chilly nights with minimums going as low as 3⁰C. Heavy woolens are a must if you are out on a wintry night.
Summers in Ujjain
Ujjain experiences extreme weather throughout the year. While the winter months are icy cold, summer months (March - June) are boiling hot. Ujjain normally touches 40⁰C with some days soaring to 45⁰C. The scorching sun and hot winds (Loo) can instantly make you fall sick. People are advised to stay indoors on a hot summer day. Nights are better but still quite hot, at around 25⁰C.
Monsoon in Ujjain
Monsoon season in Ujjain generally sees good amounts of rainfall during the rainy months (June to September) but a few weather systems may sometimes bring heavy rain to this city. Though the heavy rain spell may only be short-lived and may not lead to any flooding. Month of August is the rainiest with an average rainfall of about 300mm.
Places to see in Ujjain
The best time to visit this holy city is from October to March when the famous Mahakaleshwar Temple, enshrining one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, can be visited. Bhartruhari Caves are best visited in the cool winter months of November and December.
