Jharsuguda is situated in Orissa and is the administrative headquarters of Jharsuguda district. It is a booming industrial hub, specializing in the metal and cement sectors. It is also known as the powerhouse of Orissa, thanks to a large number of thermal power plants located nearby.

Winter season is cool and comfortable here. The months from December to February form the winter season with an average minimum of 12°C and maximum of 28°C. As temperatures remain comfortable, it is apt for sightseeing and other pursuits.

March marks the start of summer season in Jharsuguda and it lasts to the month of June. Temperature ranges from a minimum of 25°C to a maximum of 40°C during these months. Tourists, better avoid visiting Jharsuguda during these months.

Monsoon hits Jharsuguda in the month of June and continues till mid October. The monsoon showers come as a great relief after the extremely hot summers. Maximum come down to lower thirties and the diurnal variation remains very low.

Some of the places of interest here are the Koilighugar Waterfall, Gudguda Waterfall and Chandi Mandir. The ancient cave of Bikramkhol is a favourite tourist destination situated on the Jharsuguda-Lakhanpur Road, about 25 km from Jharsuguda. It is a famous cave which contains pictographic inscription and also paintings of animals. Historians and researchers from all over the country and abroad come to visit this place. Located at a distance of about 1 km from the Jharsuguda Railway station is the famous Jhadeswar temple. There is apparently a self-appearing Sivalingam here, whose actual age is unknown. Another place of interest is the Pahadi Mandir, which stand on a small hilltop.
