Dalhousie is a hill station located in the Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh. The town has an elevation of about 7,000 ft and is situated on five hills, offering great trekking opportunities. Tourism is the main stay of Dalhousie which accounts for 13% of the GDP of Himachal Pradesh. The best time to visit the town is from May to September. The hill station was established in 1854 by the then British Governor-General of India Lord Dalhousie.
Winter in Dalhousie is severe. It begins in December and continues till the end of February. The average night temperature during the season hovers around 4°C, while the maximum settles close to 11°C. Snowfall is a common feature here, which adds up to the bitter cold in the town. If you are one of those who loves to watch snowfall and can really bear the cold then winter is the best season to be in Dalhousie.
The summer season in Dalhousie starts in March and ends in May. During this period the weather in the city is extremely pleasant and comfortable. The average maximum temperature during this season settles below 25°C. This is the best time to be in Dalhousie
June, July, August and September are the monsoon months for Dalhousie. The city observes moderate rain during this period. The average rainfall amount in the city is 1,500 mm during the season. July and August with an average rainfall of 600 mm each are the rainiest months for the city. Roadblocks due to landslides are a common feature during this period. It is therefore not a good time to visit the place.
