Jammu is the southernmost part of Jammu and Kashmir and serves as a passage from the plains in Punjab to the hills of Himalayas. Jammu is also known as the winter capital of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. It is majorly a holy city for Hindus and is home to several shrines, monuments, and temples. Also, scenic waterfalls, dense forests, and small streams decorate the region. Jammu is extremely popular among tourists and the city boasts a rich and diverse cultural heritage as well. The best time to visit is generally between the months of June and August when the weather is most pleasant.
Winter in Jammu begins from November and continues till February. Minimum temperature in winter can drop to as low as 5°C and cold conditions prevail throughout the city.
The summer season in Jammu lasts from March to May and is characterized by hot conditions. The maximum temperature can shoot up to 40°C and it is during this period that the famous Amarnath pilgrimage takes place.
Monsoon in Jammu lasts between the months of June and August. The city receives good amount of rainfall in July and August. Maximum temperature drops to below 35°C and at times rain continues till September. Autumn after Monsoon is the best time to visit Jammu.

Jammu is a popular tourist destination and rightly so. It offers a lot to the visitors. Some of the important places to see in Jammu include, Bahu Fort (a 300-year old fort surrounded by a beautiful terrace garden, known as the oldest fort in Jammu city), Gauri Shankar Temple, Bagh-E-Bahu (a garden from Mughal era, it is located on the banks of Tawi river), Raghunath Temple, Shiv Khori (an important cave shrine which is 150 metres long with a 4 feet svayambhu lingam) and others.
