Malda, a famous district of West Bengal, is the biggest producer of excellent quality of jute in India. It is also known for mango production and silk manufacture, which also happens to be the main economic activities. The special variety of mango is popularly known by the name of the district and is exported across the world. Besides this, city is also famous as an important distributing centre for jute, rice and wheat. The holy river Ganga also makes its first entry in West Bengal though Manikchak of Malda. The city is prone to flood as it is a low lying basin.
The winter season starts during the latter half of November, which continues till February.
Summer season in Malda commences from March and lasts up to May. During summers the weather is extremely hot and sultry.
Monsoon marks its entry in June and continues till the middle of October. While, October and November is considered to be the post monsoon season, maximum rain is recorded during June-September. The normal annual rainfall for the city is about 1250 mm.

City is quite famous for its historical monuments. One of them is Gour, which is located 16 km from Malda town. Town is of great historical significance, as it was the capital of Bengal for several centuries. Gour consists of several monuments such as Small Golden Mosque, Bara Darwaza, Dakhil Darwaza, Firoz Minar, Kadam Rasut Mosque, and the Tomb of Saint Makhdum Shaikh Ached Siraj. Apart from this, there is Qutab Shahi Mosque, Baisgazi Wall and Malda Museum.
