After the onset of the Southwest Monsoon over Delhi on 29th June, the weather activity has nearly gone silent. A total of 4.3 mm of rainfall was recorded over the last four days. The base station at Safdarjung received no rainfall yesterday, and other locations also had only light sprinkles. In the absence of any significant weather activity, the temperature has risen over the past four days from 30.6°C to 36.9°C. The mercury may reach about 38°C today, which is above normal by about a degree or so.

The trough that controls the weather activity over Delhi is currently at a fair distance. Monsoon activity will remain confined to parts of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh, keeping a safe margin from the national capital. Weak monsoon conditions will continue for two more days. Tomorrow, the trough will start shifting, and there could be a stray shower in some areas.

A Western Disturbance in the form of a trough in the mid-levels and a circulation in the lower levels is likely to form over North Punjab and the foothills of the Jammu region on Sunday. This will pull the western end of the east-west trough northward. The trough will extend from Punjab and Haryana to join the remnant circulation of the low-pressure area over Chhattisgarh and East Madhya Pradesh on that day. The trough will come in close proximity to Delhi, and its oscillation is expected to trigger moderate to heavy showers. Weather activity is likely to begin with light rainfall on the evening and night of 5th July. After a break during the day on Sunday, 6th July 2025, the spell of rain and thundershowers will recommence in the late evening. The peak weather activity is expected late on Sunday night and during the early hours of Monday, 7th July. This will be a relatively long spell and is likely to continue intermittently through the day. Weather conditions may improve by Monday evening, albeit temporarily, and the remnant effect may continue with light showers on 8th and 9th July. Temperatures are expected to dip from Sunday onwards and hover around 33°C–34°C, which is 2°C–3°C below normal. Must Read: Mumbai’s Water Future: Beyond the Monsoon Reliance
