July starts on a rainy note in Delhi. Most parts of NCR received light to moderate rain and thundershowers. The base station at Safdarjung recorded just 3 mm of rainfall, and the Lodhi Road office was down further with 1.8 mm of rainfall in 24 hours, till this morning. The airport observatory at Palam had a spell of intense thundershowers amounting to 27 mm of rainfall during this period. The Ayanagar observatory was the next best with 22.6 mm of rainfall. Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, and Faridabad also witnessed light to moderate showers.

Delhi recorded a total of 65 mm of rainfall in June, against the normal of 80.6 mm. The national capital observed only four rainy days during the month. There was no heat wave recorded in June. The day temperature exceeded 40°C on seven days between 08th and 14th June. The highest temperature for the month was 43.9°C, recorded on 12th June 2025. The Southwest Monsoon arrived on 29th June, two days after the scheduled date of 27th June.

Delhi is likely to have frequent rain and showers during this week. The oscillation of the monsoon trough will trigger these showers, mostly light to moderate in intensity. Courtesy of a pair of cyclonic circulations, the monsoon trough will remain in proximity to Delhi/NCR almost throughout the week. One cyclonic circulation is marked over Central and East Rajasthan, and another over Gangetic West Bengal and the Jharkhand region, in association with the low-pressure area. An east-west oriented axis of the trough will remain in the vicinity of the Delhi region. The low pressure over West Bengal and Jharkhand will move slowly west-northwestward, causing oscillation of the trough.

The monsoon showers are likely to be light and patchy between 01st and 03rd July. The spatial extent and intensity will increase between 04th and 08th July. However, typical heavy monsoon showers are unlikely during this period. Persistent cloud cover, light breeze, moisture in the air, and sporadic showers will keep the temperatures under check. Day highs are likely to hover in the low 30s and remain below normal by 3°–4°C. Yesterday’s temperature was 7°C below normal. Evenings and nights are expected to be fairly comfortable. The heat index is likely to remain well within the comfort range.
