Delhi: Moderate Showers Mid-Week, More Intense On Weekend
As on expected lines, Delhi/NCR mostly remained dry during the last two days. It was a rather hot and humid weekend. The day temperature crossed 35°C after a gap of 12 days. Base station Safdarjung recorded a near-normal maximum temperature of 35.5°C yesterday. However, the moisture levels were very high, with relative humidity over 80% in the morning and about 60% in the evening hours. The discomfort index on account of heat and humidity exceeded 40°C.
The cyclonic circulation, which caused heavy rains over Rajasthan, has now weakened and also shifted over the Central and North Pakistan region. A western disturbance as an upper air trough is moving across the northern mountains. Under the combined influence of these systems, the monsoon trough has shifted north of Delhi. In the lower levels, it passes through Amritsar, Chandigarh, Bareilly, Lucknow and extends further eastward. The western end of the monsoon trough is expected to remain north of its normal position, with small oscillations.

Isolated and mild weather activity is expected today. It will increase in intensity and spread tomorrow and the day after, in that order. There will be a little pause in the activity on Friday, 25th July, but only to pick up yet again. A low-pressure area is likely to form over the Bay of Bengal on 24th July. This is likely to be a strong system and travel inland on 26th July and later. The movement of this system will change the position of the monsoon trough and drag it close to Delhi. The weather activity will pick up on Saturday and Sunday, more so on the latter day. The spillover effect will be there during the next week as well, which is likely to make a rainy start.
