The Bay of Bengal has been an active zone of weather activity since the onset of the Southwest Monsoon over the South Andaman Sea on 13th May 2025. The stream has advanced further to reach the southern tip of Sri Lanka, cover more parts of the South Bay of Bengal, and complete the chain of Bay Islands, including Port Blair, Long Island, Maya Bandar, and the North Andaman Sea. The Andaman Sea and the Bay Islands have been raining intermittently since the monsoon stream made an early onset over the region.

The cyclonic circulation over the Southeast Bay of Bengal (BoB) is likely to move over South-Central BoB tomorrow and further on to Southwest BoB, closer to the Tamil Nadu Coast, a day later.

During this period, a low-pressure area may come up over Southwest and adjoining South-Central BoB. This will take the monsoon current further to cover Sri Lanka and reach the close proximity of Tamil Nadu.

The low-pressure area, if it comes up, will move inland over the South Peninsula. The heavy rainfall belt will shift over land covering the interiors of Tamil Nadu, the north-south stretch of Kerala, coastal and North Karnataka, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, and the Konkan region.

Early pre-monsoon thundershowers having a semblance of monsoon activity will reach Mumbai, its suburbs, and South Coastal Gujarat. The weather system needs to be kept under close observation for its further movement and span of weather coverage.  In view of extensive weather activity, the advance of the monsoon over the mainland may be earlier than the expected timelines.
