Light-Moderate Rainfall For Delhi/NCR During The Week; Heavy Rains Ruled Out
Safdarjung, the base station of Delhi, has not recorded any rainfall for the second consecutive day. Even other stations also recorded the least rainfall in the past 24 hours. Thick clouds did hover over Delhi/NCR but without yielding any measurable rainfall at most places. Earlier, there were some leads for good and heavy showers today, but that threat has receded, and most parts have to contend with very light rain. Even during this week, either very light rain or no rain is likely over Delhi and suburbs.
Monsoon showers over Delhi are mostly triggered by the seasonal monsoon trough, which keeps its proximity to the city. The trough line has shifted slightly north of Delhi. There is a cluster of clouds in association with the trough, north and northeast of Delhi, but the capital city remains on the far peripherals. It may, therefore, skip any significant weather activity. The showers today may not even be of moderate strength and are likely to be fleeting in nature too, if any, in the late evening hours.
There is a likelihood of an in-situ cyclonic circulation coming up over central parts of South Uttar Pradesh and northern parts of central Madhya Pradesh, having more inclination towards the latter. This feature will drag the trough southward, and some moderate showers are likely between 08th and 11th August. Following this, another weather system is likely to come up over the Bay of Bengal as a cyclonic circulation on 11th–12th August. Landward movement of this system may keep the trough in place, and the wet spell may continue till mid-week next. The temperatures will remain checked and are unlikely to exceed 33°C. The comfort level will be better during the late evening, night, and early morning hours.
