Heavy Rains Coming Up For Mumbai; Downpour May Commence Around Weekend
Mumbai has generally remained quiet for the last two weeks. The city has observed mild showers and single-digit rainfall for the last five consecutive days. Similar conditions will continue for the next four days, till 15th Aug 2025, and a change thereafter. Typical Mumbai heavy rains are likely to make a comeback on the approaching weekend and more so at the start of next week.
August is the second rainiest month for the city and has a modest normal of 585.2 mm of rainfall. In the first 12 days, the city observatory at Santacruz has collected only 65 mm of rainfall. Light to moderate showers are likely for the next 3–4 days, and an uptick will follow with a decent and heavy spell starting on the weekend and spilling over to the next week.
Delhi Rain Update: Delhi Crosses Half Way Mark: Heavy Showers Ahead During The Week
A low-pressure area is likely to form over the Bay of Bengal tomorrow. The precursor cyclonic circulation has already come up over the northwest Bay of Bengal. This system will remain mostly over the sea till 14th Aug and move partially over land the next day. The surge of the westerly stream will start building up along the Konkan Coast on 16th and 17th August, while the system will still be far away over Odisha and Chhattisgarh. Between 17th and 19th Aug, the system will travel across Madhya Pradesh, North Madhya Maharashtra, and Gujarat. This is the time when heavy to very heavy rainfall will start over Mumbai and suburbs. The remnant effect will continue for the subsequent 48 hours with moderate showers at most places. Since model accuracy does not hold good after a lead time of 4–5 days, the forecast will be reviewed and changes, if any, will be updated.
