The Deep Depression over East-central Arabian Sea has been moving in a northerly direction with a slow speed of around 5 kmph. Today, at 5:30 IST, the Deep Depression has intensified into a Cyclonic Storm ‘Kyarr’.

At present, its located near latitude 16’N and 71.3’ E, about 240 km West-Southwest of Ratnagiri, 380 km South-southwest of Mumbai and 1850 kms East-southeast of Salalah (Oman).

It will now gradually recurve in a Northwest direction and move West-northwestward while moving towards Oman coast. We expect it to intensify into a ‘Severe Cyclone’ by tonight. At present, vertical wind shear is low and poleward outflow is good.

Moreover, the system is travelling in warm sea surface temperatures of around 30°C. Therefore, its further intensification into a Very Severe Cyclone is possible by tomorrow i.e. October 26 evening.

As this weather system is expected to move away from the coast, its impact over the Indian coast will also reduce gradually. During the next 24 hours, we expect moderate rains with isolated heavy spells to occur over North-coast of Karnataka as well as Konkan and Goa.

The intensity of rain will reduce by tomorrow and scattered rain is likely in the region. Strong surface winds and choppy sea conditions are possible until October 27 in North Karnataka as well as Konkan and Goa. Sea conditions will remain rough to very rough for the next 24 hours to 48 hours. Therefore, fishermen and the general public are advised not to venture into the sea for the next 24 hours.
