The day temperatures have been raging across Delhi/NCR, but just falling short of the typical heat wave criterion. Lodi Road registered a high of 42.6°C yesterday. Base station Safdarjung has a track record of recording 45°C or more for quite many years. The mercury breached this mark in 2010, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2018, 2020, 2022, and 2024. The highest-ever temperature was 47.2°C, recorded on 29th June 1944.

The western disturbance has cleared the mountains. A fresh system is likely to arrive on 11th June. A cyclonic circulation placed over Haryana and Rajasthan will get activated, and a fresh spell of thunderstorm-dust storm activity will get triggered over the plains of North India, including Delhi. The spell of pre-monsoon activity will last for three days between 11th and 13th June 2026.

The mercury will continue to rise for the next two days. The temperature may reach close to 44°C (+/- 1°C) today and tomorrow. Dust storms and thunderstorms will be accompanied by strong gusty winds. Brief clearance will come up on 14th June, and borderline pre-monsoon activity will remain in place for the subsequent 4-5 days next week.
