Low Pressure Area Forms Over Bay Of Bengal, Weather Activity Likely Along The Coastline
Apr 7, 2025, 4:28 PM | Skymet Weather TeamUnder the influence of persisting cyclonic circulation over the North Andaman Sea and adjoining Bay of Bengal (BoB), a low-pressure area has formed over South-Central BoB with cyclonic circulation extending up to medium levels in the atmosphere. This is the first low-pressure area of the season and appears to be rather weak and mild in terms of intensity and spread of weather. It needs to be observed closely over the next 48 hours or so.

The low pressure is likely to move northwestward over the Southwest BoB in the next 24 hours and later shift northward to get placed over West-Central BoB, around mid-week. There is no immediate concern along and off the coastline of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha for the next 2-3 days. The weather activity will remain confined over the sea region. As the system moves over the farther parts of BoB, closer to the east coast, there could be some uptick in the weather activity.
The cyclonic circulation of the low pressure is marked over a broad area over the south and central parts of the Bay of Bengal. Its axis also has an inclination oriented northeast-southwest. The circulation may become a little more marked over the next 24 hours. However, it is likely to remain more prominently over the sea, off the Andhra Pradesh and Odisha coasts. Accordingly, the weather activity is likely to be scattered and moderate over coastal parts of West Bengal, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh between 09th and 11th April. Yes. Northeast India will have increased spread of intensity and coverage, both, during this period. The weather activity will shift inland as well between 12th and 14th April. Under the combined influence of multiple factors, there will be a visible uptick in the pre-monsoon activity, both in terms of spread and intensity, covering southern and eastern parts, along and off the east coast and Northeast India for the next one week. It may have a spillover to the next week for South Peninsular India as well.
