Mercury Level To Rise In Gujarat: Heat Wave Likely In Some Areas
Mar 6, 2025, 5:06 PM | Skymet Weather TeamThe state of Gujarat is one of the hottest states in the pre-monsoon season. Heat starts catching up early in March and builds up further over the next two months in April and May. The second half of March is substantially hotter than the first half wherein, the temperatures breach the notional mark of 40°C. Coastal stations are less vulnerable than the deep inland stations. However, high humidity coupled with even moderate temperatures, play hell to raise the discomfort level all along the shoreline of the state.
A western disturbance is likely to approach the hills of North India on 09th Mar. As a prelude, a cyclonic circulation is expected to come up over South and West Rajasthan between the 08th and 10th of March 2025. Close on the heels, another western disturbance is likely to follow and move across, between the 11th and 14th March. Similar support circulation will again come up over North and Northeast Rajasthan. These back-to-back systems will change the wind pattern over the entire state of Gujarat and neighboring South Rajasthan.
No significant clouding or rainfall is expected over the state of Gujarat during this period between 08th and 12th Mar 2025. However, the routine moist southwesterly winds from the Arabian Sea, which shield most parts from the extreme heat, will get interrupted. Light-variable and turbulent hot winds are likely to cover deep inland stations of North & Central Gujarat and interiors of Saurashtra & Kutch. This change in the wind pattern will usher in sweltering heat over the core arid zone of the state.
Quite likely, that the state will breach the speculative mark of 40°C at some places, during this period. The heat is likely to build up from 08th Mar onward and capitulate further, spilling into the next week. There is a fair amount of chance that a few stations may reach or exceed the threshold of 40°C. If so, this will amount to early heatwave conditions for the state. The most vulnerable locations will include Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Baroda, Patan, Mehsana, Kheda, Dahod, Godhra, Amreli, Junagadh, Botad, Surendranagar, Morbi, Rajkot, Bhuj and Naliya.
