Monsoon In Tamil Nadu

Despite making a late start this season, the Southwest Monsoon 2019 has finally stepped in Kerala and has also reached the southern parts of Tamil Nadu. The Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) is currently passing through Latitude 11°N/ Longitude 60°E, Latitude 11°N/ Longitude 70°E, Amini Divi, Kochi, Madurai, Latitude 11°N/ Longitude 86°E, Latitude 16°N/ Longitude 91°E, and Latitude 20°N/ Longitude 94°E.

During the last few days due to instability in the form of a trough which was moving across Tamil Nadu, rain and thundershower activities were observed mainly over western and central parts of the state.

Even yesterday, rain and thundershower activities were observed over the interior parts of Tamil Nadu with isolated heavy spells over Madurai. The experts have to say that post the arrival of Monsoon we do not expect the rainfall activities to enhance here.

Rains are now likely to reduce over Tamil Nadu as the Low-Pressure Area is expected to form over Southeast Arabian Sea and adjoining Lakshadweep. As the system would intensify, it will move towards North and as a result, strong southwesterlies are expected to prevail over most parts of Tamil Nadu during the next few days.

In the next 24 hours, the activities are likely to go drop significantly and thereafter it would pick up the pace and intensify over the Nilgiris.

Dry weather is likely to prevail over the state except for the extreme western part. The foothills of Nilgiris and adjoining southern parts stand a chance to witness good rains.

Till date, in this Monsoon season, Tamil Nadu has recorded 15.9 mm of rains against 17.3 mm of rains.
