No More Rainfall Over Delhi In March, Mercury Rise Likely
Mar 24, 2025, 12:45 PM | Skymet Weather TeamThe month of March has literally gone dry for the national capital. Except for 2mm of rainfall on the opening day of the month, weather conditions have mostly remained dry, and these will stretch until the end of the month. Absence of clouds and rains will lead to a rise in temperature, more so in the next three days. The normal rainfall for the month is 19.2 mm.
A western disturbance will reach over the mountains anytime soon. However, its effect will remain limited to the hills and that too, the Jammu & Kashmir region. The change in the wind pattern will make the mercury rise till mid-week. The month has so far recorded the highest maximum of 36.2°C, and it may surpass that during this period. A possible drop in temperature thereafter, following cold winds in the wake of a western disturbance, during the fag end of the month.
The month of March has a history of clocking 40°C, as it happened in March 2021. The highest ever temperature of 40.6°C was recorded on 31st Mar 1945. The day temperature may hover between 37°-38°C on 26th March, and this could be the likely peak during this month. The month of March has the precedence of observing three-digit monthly rainfall, and the city had recorded 109.6 mm of rainfall in Mar 2020. But then, there have been occasions like Mar 2022, when the city remained totally dry and witnessed a high of 39.6°C, just short of 40°C. March 2025 is more akin to this year, as the only rainfall of 2 mm in this month was also recorded on 28th Feb and as per norms, counted against March. The month of April is going to usher in typical pre-monsoon weather with heat and humidity on the rise.
