As temperatures soar across the country, leading to widespread heatwave conditions, a much-needed reprieve is on the way. Pre-monsoon activities are set to make their appearance over several parts of Northwest and Central India, promising temporary relief from the oppressive heat.

With much of the region sweltering under extreme temperatures, the impacts are being felt most acutely by marginalized communities lacking access to cooling appliances and shelter. Additionally, the intense heat has begun to impact productivity and well-being, especially for those working outdoors.

However, a shift in weather patterns is expected over the next 48 hours, bringing thunderstorms, dust storms, and scattered rain to several regions.

Where Relief is Expected First

Pre-monsoon weather activity is likely to begin over parts of Rajasthan, Haryana, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, and Uttar Pradesh. This includes the potential for dust storms and thunderstorms which can lower temperatures and improve air quality, albeit briefly.

Forecast for April 25–26

Rajasthan: Districts such as Jaipur, Ajmer, Churu, Jhunjhunu, Sikar, Alwar, and Bharatpur may experience dust storms on April 25 and 26.

Haryana: Areas including Jind, Rohtak, Charkhi Dadri, Mewat, Nuh, Palwal, Faridabad, and Jhajjar are expected to see thunderstorm activity on April 26.

Delhi-NCR and Uttar Pradesh: Thunderstorms and dust storms are also likely across Delhi-NCR and cities like Agra, Hathras, Aligarh, Jhansi, Mahoba, Banda, Prayagraj, Varanasi, and Chitrakoot on April 26.

Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh: Pre-monsoon showers and thunderstorms may impact Gwalior, Datia, Tikamgarh, Jabalpur, Sidhi in Madhya Pradesh and Rajnandgaon, Durg, Raigarh, Raipur, and Balod Bazar in Chhattisgarh.

Extended Outlook: April 27 Onward

By April 27, pre-monsoon activities are expected to spill over into East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Odisha. These regions could witness intense thunderstorms, rain, thunder squalls, and isolated hailstorms, bringing widespread if brief, weather changes.

Relief on the Horizon — But Temporary

While these pre-monsoon activities are not the beginning of a permanent cooldown, they offer a vital pause from the relentless heat. Temperatures may drop temporarily, and the weather is expected to become more bearable for a few days.

Residents are advised to stay updated with local weather alerts, especially during storm-prone hours. Though the relief may be short-lived, the arrival of these pre-monsoon showers brings a hopeful sign of change as India inches closer to the monsoon season.
